Intranasal corticosteroids are the most effective medication for hay fever, but patients need to use their nasal spray correctly to feel the full effects.
Here, Guy Scadding, Consultant Allergist, Royal Brompton and Harefield Trust NHS, demonstrates how to teach a patient to use a nasal spray.
After completing this course you should:
- Understand the stepwise approach to the treatment of patients with hay fever, and the different treatments available
- Recognise when oral corticosteroid use may be necessary
- Understand the role of nasal saline irrigation in the treatment of hay fever
- Know the treatment options available for pregnant women and children with hay fever
- Recognise when referral for immunotherapy may be appropriate.
