A few weeks ago, just for a lighthearted experiment, we posted a poll on NYSORA's community asking who excels more in anesthesiology: MEN or WOMEN. The intention wasn't to promote any specific agenda, especially in this era of diversity and inclusion; there's no way you'd catch us taking sides, no matter the incentive!
However, it's clear from the feedback that we unintentionally stirred up some strong feelings.
While anesthesiology societies trumpet their advocy for diversity, the responses to our poll revealed interesting opinions. Some were all for female anesthetists, crediting them with exceptional skills, while others believed men are more attentive. A handful even painted women as more emotional and men as somewhat sloppy. What's evident from the reactions is the existence of strong biases and preferences.
But, if you're curious about my perspective, you’ll get this in this video!
