Bakers cysts are common and present as a soft bulge behind the knee and are caused by increased pressure in the joint as a result of an underlying condition such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and neuropathic arthropathy. They are benign and composed of a fibrous cyst wall lined by synovial epithelial cells.
