The Guardenia™ contained extraction system is a novel containment system indicated to contain and isolate tissue during, or prior to, surgical removal and/or extracorporeal manual morcellation. MIGS surgeons will appreciate the containment bag’s easy insertion through a standard 12mm trocar under pneumoperitoneum1. Guardenia has shown to provide better retraction of the incision compared to a currently marketed device, thereby increasing surgical working space by 50% with the same 2.5cm incision1. In addition, The Guardenia Contained Extraction System’s unique built-in scalpel guard automatically conforms to the shape and size of the surgical incision, designed to provide maximal protection of the patient and the containment bag from scalpel laceration during the procedure without compromising working space1.
Fair Balanced Statement to be incorporated into discussions, weighing risk / benefit:
Potential complications associated with the use of the Guardenia contained extraction system are the same as those associated with systems indicated to contain and isolate tissue during, or prior to, surgical removal and /or extracorporeal manual morcellation. the use of tissue or specimen bags, extracorporeal manual morcellation and laparoscopic surgery in general and include but are not limited to superficial lesions, injury to internal vessels, bleeding, hematoma, injury to the abdominal wall, injury to bowel, infection, peritonitis and spread of benign or malignant tissue.
